Looking for the perfect plan, but can't
seem to find anything in the magazines that works? Don't get frustrated
- you're not alone! While there are good plans out there, most aren't
designed for today's families or need to be changed for your building site or
personal tastes. Many of the designs have been created with warmer
climates in mind, lacking basements or much needed mudrooms required for
living here in the Midwest. Still other plans have some redeeming
features, but don't have a good flow of spaces or an efficient layout.

Have you ever walked into a home that felt just
right? It's not one particular thing that
makes it that way, but rather a combination of
light, volume, views, textures and other subtle
details that you may not even see - you just feel
them. This feeling is the result of good
design principles applied in scale with the
substance of the home.
At Artisan Home Builders we
specialize in the design of unique custom homes that just work.
How? By first listening to your needs and dreams to understand what
requirements you have in a home ... then working with you through the various
decisions required to design a floor plan that fits you, your site and your
budget. This consultative approach allows us to get to the details that
really matter to you - and to design a home that fits your personality.
We are an experienced design/build team that can
carry the design vision and details together throughout the building process,
which means you'll get a unique design with buildable blueprints and a
realistic budget.
Once we understand the details, the
"art" is in combining those details with practical experience and design
principles. We'll work with you to understand how you want to live in
your new home and what factors will influence the design - including
considerations for kids, pets, furniture, entertaining, technology, cars,
health, cooking, hobbies, work and all the other things that you need to
accommodate in your daily life. Then we'll draft floor plan options to
provide solutions that fit within your budget, providing opportunities for you
to review and provide direction at each step of the process. When the
floor plans are finalized we'll work with you to finalize the exterior
details and create the final blueprints and construction drawings required for
building.
BUDGETS
& PLANNING.
One of the most important - and most overlooked
- elements in a custom design is the budget!
Nothing is more frustrating than to spend hours
pouring over all of the details that you'd like in a
home, only to come up with a beautiful home plan
that doesn't match your budget. This all too
common occurrence is both financially and
emotionally draining, since it normally ends up in
either plans being scrapped or a large amount of
time spent "giving up" key features of your home.
There is a better
way! As a home builder we understand
the true building costs involved in all of the
details of your home. We've developed a
detailed estimating process that we use right from
the beginning of the design to match your needs and
dreams together with your home plan. This
process consistently results in accurate
construction costs and provides a great platform for
comparing bids from different builders and
subcontractors. For our construction clients
we use these cost estimates in our contracts and
will guarantee the price!
BUILDING
PHASE.
If you're building locally and have chosen
Artisan Home Builders as your builder, we'll
continue to support your custom design throughout
construction to make sure the goals and details don't
get lost. This is a major advantage to you in
making sure you get what you want, and is also an advantage for us in that we
don't have to guess what what you
wanted to accomplish and why. This seamless transition between design and
construction also helps to minimize changes - reducing construction time and
project costs.
We do however recognize
that we can't always build for our design clients -
either because your site is outside of our local
reach or because you've selected another builder.
In these cases we often continue to work through the
construction process with you, providing additional
details and updates to you and your builder as the
project continues. How much involvement we
have is really up to you and your builder, but our
experience has been that the more communication the
better!

project is different, the typical custom design project takes approximately 3 months to
complete. Our fees vary based on the project, but are
generally a fraction of what most architects charge - and we believe a much
greater value due to our building experience and focus on you.
